Mathematical Waves Conference Recognizes Excellence in Latin American Mathematics
On Wednesday, January 29th, at the Lakeside Village Auditorium at the University of Miami, the Mathematical Waves conference celebrated the achievements of four distinguished mathematicians: Rita Jimenez Rolland, Alfredo Najera Chavez, Maria Aparecida Soares Ruas, and Marcelo Viana da Silva. These scholars were awarded for their exceptional contributions to the mathematical field, with research ranging from dynamical systems to algebraic geometry. Marcelo Viana, the director-general of the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA), was honored with the "IMSA Award for Established Mathematician" by the Institute for Mathematical Sciences of the Americas (IMSA). The award was presented during the Mathematical Waves Miami event at the University of Miami. Viana was recognized for his influential research and significant contributions to the Latin American mathematics community. The award, part of IMSA's initiative to celebrate excellence in Latin American mathematics, also recognized other distinguished mathematicians, including Alfredo Najera Chaves and Rita Jimenez Rolland.

Jiménez Rolland's research focuses on group theory and its implications in geometry and algebra, while Nájera Chávez explores geometry, algebra, and combinatorics within theoretical physics.
