AMC-IMSA Jose Adem Prize for Mathematical Research in Mexico

The Mexican Academy of Sciences (AMC) and the Institute of Mathematical Sciences of the Americas (IMSA) at the University of Miami, supported by the Simons Foundation and the Mexican Mathematical Society, are pleased to announce the Jose Adem Prize for Mathematical Research in Mexico, recognizing exceptional mathematicians based in Mexico for their contributions to the field.

SBM President Attends Lunch in Honor of Italian President

On July 15, 2024, Jaqueline Godoy Mesquita attended a luncheon at the Itamaraty Palace in honor of Italian President Sergio Mattarella, hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and First Lady Janja Lula da Silva. The invitation recognized her contributions to strengthening Brazil-Italy relations in mathematical sciences. Previously honored as a Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy and recipient of the “Science, She Says!” award, Jaqueline joined distinguished guests, including Vice-President Geraldo Alckmin and photographer Sebastião Salgado, in celebrating the 150th anniversary of Italian immigration to Brazil.

New Mathematical Collaboration Program between Spain and Latin America

The launch of the program took place April 2024, with a presentation event held at the ICMAT that featured interventions by José María Martell, vice president of Scientific and Technical Research of the CSIC; Javier Aramayona, director of ICMAT; Ludmil Katzarkov, director of IMSA (University of Miami); and Yuri Tschinkel, director of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at the Simons Foundation.

The winners of the National Mathematics Award 2023 were: the professor of the Department of Mathematics of UNICAUCA, Carlos Alberto Trujillo and the professor Bernardo Uribe Jongbloed, of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the UniNorte of Barranquilla.

Jaqueline Godoy Mesquita won the “Science, She Says!” Award

On March 06, 2023, Jaqueline Godoy Mesquita won the “Science, She Says!” award from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Padova, Italy. She received this prize on behalf of the entire South and Central America and Caribbean Region for her outstanding and impacting advancements in the field of mathematics.
