The José Adem Prize for Mathematical Research in Mexico was established in 2024 as a joint initiative of the Mexican Academy of Sciences (AMC) and the Institute of Mathematical Sciences of the Americas (IMSA), with the support of the Simons Foundation and the Mexican Mathematical Society.

The purpose of the prize is to recognize and honor outstanding mathematicians based in Mexico who have made significant contributions to the advancement of mathematics. The prize is awarded biennially, with one recipient selected in each award cycle. This is the call for the 2026 prize.

Eligibility is restricted to mathematicians working in Mexico who, at the time this call closes, are under 45 years old in the case of women and under 43 years old in the case of men. The candidate’s body of work must reflect exceptional contributions made in Mexico over at least the previous five years.

The Scientific Committee will have an international composition and will be made up of five distinguished mathematicians representing a broad range of research areas, while also seeking gender balance. The Committee will review all nominations and oversee a rigorous, transparent, and fair selection process. Nominations will be evaluated based on the relevance, impact, and excellence of the candidates’ mathematical contributions.

The 2026 Prize includes a monetary award of USD $5,000, generously provided by the Simons Foundation, as well as a certificate of recognition, a commemorative medal, and an invitation to deliver a Plenary Lecture at the 2026 Mathematical Meeting of the Mexican Mathematical Society, to be held at the Autonomous University of Tlaxcala from October 18 to 23, 2026.

Nomination Process

We invite professors from universities and research centers around the world to submit nominations. Nominations must be submitted electronically through the IMSA website, which can also be accessed through a link on the AMC website.

The nomination package must include:

A letter of acceptance from the nominee.

A comprehensive two-page Curriculum Vitae (CV), highlighting the nominee’s academic background, professional experience, research contributions, and honors/awards received. The CV should also highlight the candidate’s five best publications.

A document of no more than seven pages describing the nominee’s work and its relevance within the field. This document should detail the main mathematical contributions and their impact.

At least two letters of recommendation.

Selection Process

The Scientific Committee will evaluate all nominations. The committee will ensure a rigorous and fair selection process, basing its decisions on the mathematical relevance, impact, and quality of the nominees’ work.

Important Dates

• Call opens: April 30, 2026
• Nomination deadline: June 15, 2026
