Abstract: The purpose of this talks is to introduce and study a theory of Chern classes for singular complex varieties by combining techniques of motivic integration with the transformation defined by MacPherson. In particular, we give a construction of a class, which we call the stringy Chern class, with strong birational properties and an interesting "orbifold'' interpretation when the variety is a Gorenstein quotient of a manifold by a finite group. The adjective "stringy" here is dictated by the analogy with other invariants that have been introduced in the literature.
This is joint work with de Fernex, Nevins and Uribe.

Abstract: In this lectures I will explain the notion of stringy invariant of orbifolds and show some examples. In the first lecture, I will review the classical notion of stringy invariant of log-terminal varieties. Then, in the second lecture, I will introduce motivic integration over Deligne-Mumford stacks. Finally, in the third lecture, I will define the notion of stringy invariant of orbifolds and present some well-known instances of them.
